Tiktok Nudes Teens

Tiktok has long been associated with social media as an outlet for raunchy and sexualized content featuring buxom teens in bikinis and crop tops, yet the app hosts far darker material as well. Children can post and watch videos about disordered eating, drug use, dangerous driving practices and violence that violate both its community guidelines as well as internal policy documents of Tiktok’s parent company (the latter of which show they “allow”) this content; even though Tiktok’s “for you” algorithm filters out much of this material it still often rises to the surface – often rising up their feeds!

Wall Street Journal investigations discovered that content can also promote sexuality, drugs and alcohol to children as young as 13. For instance, when a 13-year-old searched for “onlyfans,” she was shown videos depicting two people selling pornographic material and another regarding sexual relations and drugs.

Even when videos that violate community guidelines are reported, Tiktok continues to struggle in protecting children from inappropriate content. Some users use tactics known as algospeak in order to bypass algorithmic filters designed to detect explicit material. This includes employing internet slang or codes intended to disguise words that might trigger filters; and employing strategies like using fake ID or photos from younger age groups so as to bypass Tiktok’s age verification system altogether.

Tiktok’s data collection practices tend to be more intrusive in regions with weak data protection laws – leaving children and youth more susceptible to abusive content and exploitative advertising online. Amnesty has called upon Tiktok to ensure its policies and practices are more consistent around the globe.
