How Cartoon Teens Are Exposing Their Children to Erotic Pornography

Cartoon porn was initially developed as a subculture for adults who enjoyed viewing illustrated fictional characters engaging in sexualized situations. Commonly referred to as “erotic animation” or “cartoon pornography,” but also referred to as “Hentai” or “Cartoon Adult,” Hentai tends to focus more heavily on girls and women while its art style more closely resembles characters such as She-ra or He-man than anime.

Computer-enhanced 3D cartoon porn has changed all that. Because its realistic style makes distinguishing between real and animated images of children more difficult, making prosecution for cartoon child pornography more challenging; many jurisdictions have even passed laws penalizing its possession only when there is a real victim involved.

However, depictions of cartoon children in erotic pornography make the depiction of child abuse look particularly troubling in a society that advocates equality and seeks to protect victims of child abuse. Additionally, social media algorithms continue to narrow the gap between who you follow and accounts suggested to you; meaning young kids could potentially encounter cartoon pornography when searching innocently for movies and TV shows online.

Rebekah Woodruff of Arlington, Virginia recently faced this scenario when her two young boys’ cartoon suddenly changed to an adult movie. Rebekah immediately shut off the television, turned down volume on portable devices used by them and checked them thoroughly to look for anything suspicious or inappropriate on their screens.
