A Dropbox Account Containing Nude Teen Photos

Lamorinda-area children continue to share nude photos online via Dropbox accounts, leading to reports across the nation of hundreds of underage girl photos being uploaded to one. This case represents just one case among many reported, as children post such content online.

No secret exists regarding men asking women for intimate photos even after being turned down; what makes this case unique, however, is the senior at a local high school who set up a password-protected Dropbox to collect and share these pictures – something police charged him with as transmission of child pornography; an offense punishable by up to five years imprisonment.

According to court documents, one Dropbox account contained approximately 60 nude and suggestive images of girls, while the second had approximately 15 photos in total. Each Dropbox contained subfolders for each girl named separately along with another “miscellaneous” folder. Investigators reviewed Snapchat messages which contained nude or suggestive photos sent directly by boys to girls via WhatsApp messenger as well as texts messages sent between boys who sent these photos back and forth between accounts.

During an interview, the suspect admitted to creating the Dropbox account, collecting explicit photos, and sharing links to them with his peers. He also disclosed taking a selfie with another female but only her face could be seen clearly in it. While teens often share nude or suggestive pictures amongst themselves, sharing them online is illegal.
