Mary Steenburgen Tits has made her mark as an accomplished actor over four decades with her diverse filmography, from dramas such as Ragtime and Miss Firecracker, to comedies like Cross Creek, Back to the Future Part III, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, Elf, The Brave One, The Proposal, Last Vegas Parenthood Philadelphia as well as frequent guest star appearances on Curb Your Enthusiasm and Joan of Arcadia television shows.

Steenburgen spoke candidly with Yahoo Entertainment recently about her long and varied career and the various chapters in her life, recalling being discovered by Jack Nicholson in Paramount’s New York office reception area and landing her first acting gig in Goin’ South, his second directorial effort.

Steenburgen quickly rose to fame. In her third film, 1980’s Melvin and Howard, she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress as Lynda Dummar from Trucker Wife to Befriender to Howard Hughes (played by Steenburgen herself). Later films she starred in include The Yearling and Pontiac Moon as well as several television shows and miniseries.

Steenburgen is married to actor Ted Danson and currently resides in Los Angeles with their two children, Charlie and Lily. Additionally, Steenburgen has been active in charitable causes; former President Bill Clinton counts her among his close circle. Steenburgen and Danson have collaborated on multiple projects together over time, most notably their recurring roles on Curb Your Enthusiasm on HBO.
